I hope it's not a cliche to say this,
but every day is like a dream come true these days. I got married in
July of this year to my beautiful wife Katie, and we're enjoying every
single day together. Someone who has been married for over 50 years told
me this: "Jon, after over fifty years of marriage, I feel like my wife
and I are still on the honeymoon. If you want a successful marriage,
don't ever leave that honeymoon phase." That's my plan, and so far so
good!
I
was born and raised in Port Huron, Michigan, and I've lived in Michigan
my entire life. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a family where, as
a kid, my parents always made sure my sisters and I were in church every
Sunday morning. I have so many great childhood memories of Sunday
School, hockey at McMorran Arena, and bike rides with my dad down to
Diana's Ice Cream Parlor in downtown Port Huron. As wonderful as life
was, though, it still had its rough patches. When I was just six years
old, we found ourselves homeless and without our mother after she died
in a house fire. The house burned to the ground, and my mom didn't make
it out. Even through that time, though, God really provided for my
family. People from our church took us in to live with them. People who
I still to this day call "Auntie" and "Uncle Roger" let us live with
them for over six months, and really made us a part of their family.
Through them, and through many other caring people, God helped me and my
family heal. Today, my dad, and my sisters, and I are all doing
wonderfully, and it's because of the way God and His people came to our
aid.
I've
been doing radio for about 10 years now, since I was in high school. A
great teacher named Mrs. Storey convinced me that I should give radio a
try, and boy am I glad I listened to her! I started out as an intern at
WSAQ, a country station in Port Huron, where I worked for a fantastic
morning host named Brian Harper. Even as I finished high school and went
off to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, I would still come home
every summer and work on the radio. After college, I was offered a job
on a morning show at WPHM in Port Huron, which I did until I came to
WMUZ in March 2005.
I love being at WMUZ! The people I
work with are wonderful, and you listeners are just amazing. You are
truly like family to me. Through some good times and some hard times, so
many of you have been there with me, and I'm grateful for every single
one of you.
Thank you, and God bless you!
